Scenario 1 If you are teaching inside a classroom and you hear the alarm:

DO NOT CONFRONT SUSPECT

When a lockdown alarm sounds, staff immediately CLOSE AND LOCK all external doors and windows, close blinds;
The teacher will mark the attendance in class on Kamar (if you have your laptop/cellphone) and if not already done so;
Turn off all lights, student cell-phones, electronic devices, and computer monitors.
Have your cell-phone on silent mode and your laptop open to receive mail.
Individuals are to contact the Principals EA on Teams or Main Reception on Teams with vital information regarding the incident.
Students are instructed to keep out of view under a desk, lying on the floor away from windows, until the all clear is sounded. Try to maintain a calm environment.
Students must be silent and follow all instructions.
No-one is to leave the relative safety of the classroom until the all clear is given.
If appropriate, the teacher will take measures to assist the injured without jeopardising the safety of themselves or others.
Disregard fire alarm system and school bells. Only evacuate a class room/building if you believe that you are in immediate danger from a fire. If this is required head straight to the safe area (Christ Church Cathedral) or at the direction of authorised personnel.
Evacuation of buildings will occur only at the direction of the authorised personnel.
All student property will be left in the building at that time.
Remain locked down until verbal notice is received from either Principal, Police Command or Senior Leadership Team.

Scenario 2 If you are outside a school building (teaching with a class) and you hear the lockdown alarm:

DO NOT CONFRONT THE SUSPECT

Students, staff, contractors and visitors are to move to the nearest classroom or identified safe area (Christ Church Cathedral) as quickly and quietly as possible and wait until the all clear is given. Students must follow staff/police instructions.
Turn off student cell-phones and electronic devices.
No-one is to leave the relative safety of the designated safe area (Christ Church Cathedral) until the all clear is given.
The teacher will mark the attendance in class on Kamar (if you have your laptop/cellphone) and if not already done so
If appropriate, the teacher will take measures to assist the injured without jeopardising themselves or others.
Remain locked down until verbal notice is received from either Principal, Police Command or Senior Leadership Team.

Scenario 3 If you hear the lockdown Alarm during interval or lunchtime or before school

DO NOT CONFRONT THE SUSPECT

Students, staff, contractors and visitors are to move inside a building as quickly and quietly as possible and wait until the all clear is given. If the student/staff cannot safely make it to their Arahi or classroom they go to the closest classroom.
The teacher/senior student will note students present (if possible) and email this information to admin@ncg.school.nz – use a laptop or cell phone
Turn off all lights, student cell-phones and electronic devices.
Have your cell-phone on silent mode and your laptop open to receive mail.
Individuals are to contact (message) the Principals EA on Teams or Main Reception on Teams with vital information regarding the incident.
