Level 1 Citizen Science

Course Description

This course aims to give students some science knowledge in real-life contexts to help them understand the world around them. It covers a wide range of science topics such as microbes and how we use them, why we get different astronomical cycles and what is causing extreme earth events. We may look at how the science of waves affects us in everyday life, such as our hearing and sight, or why we use certain metals in different real-life situations. Reminder: this course does not lead to Year 12 Science.

Entry Requirements

By recommendation of Year 10 Science teacher and/or the Dean. The majority of Year 10 grades are likely to be at or below level 4 of the curriculum. 

Pathway

This course is aimed at students who do not intend to follow a science career. It contains Achievement Standards covering a range of science topics and is entirely internally assessed. Students intending to take any Year 12 Science subject must choose 11SCI, 11SCP or 11SCB. At least 4 standards from those listed will be assessed.
