The arts are powerful forms of expression that recognise, value, and contribute to the unique bi-cultural and multicultural character of Aotearoa New Zealand, enriching the lives of all New Zealanders. The arts have their own distinct languages that use both verbal and non-verbal conventions, mediated by selected processes and technologies. Through movement, sound, and image, the arts transform people’s creative ideas into expressive works that communicate layered meanings.

The Visual Art Learning Area at NCG is a healthy and vibrant part of the school that allows students to explore a wide range of creative fields. We aim to give our students the opportunities to develop original ideas that express themselves and the world they live in while successfully gaining NCEA qualifications. This is a rewarding learning area that requires students to use their imagination and creativity, while acquiring a range of practical skills.
